Kew Residence

this residence in Kew is the second of two houses, with the former located in Melbourne’s CBD, both occupied on a routine basis by a retired couple. The client’s sole request was a modern space that consisted of elements and qualities found lacking in the first house, a city apartment. Open plan, flexibility, and ample space were key considerations within the design as the existing was very compartmentalised. Its emphasis on shared zones over private spaces was deemed unsuitable by the clients’ work and lifestyle habits. Extending and opening up the existing plan allowed for variability in function, transforming the house into a multi-faceted space that provided opportunities for the couple to share activities and also enjoy their own quiet space
